Just like recent years, the Monrovia Historical Museum took part in the ‘Monrovia Days’ festivities. It was a fun event–another successful year for the City of Monrovia, its government, leaders, staff, and civic organizations, to get together in the spirit of this joyous celebration. From game booths to fun rides, live music, food and merchant discounts, this proud community really knows how to put on a party!
Although the city of Monrovia was incorporated in 1887, the town of Monrovia’s recognized birthday is May 17, 1886, when the first lots went up for sale! Thanks to its forefathers, Monrovia’s anniversary celebration as a town has been held on that date since 1890. Except for some challenging years when the festivities had to be canceled, Monrovia Days and the parade has been an annual tradition! Read more about the history of Monrovia Days in this publication, posted in 2012 by Jim Wigton of the Monrovia Historic Preservation Group, and in this YouTube video produced in 2021 by the Monrovia Historical Society.
